Hat Challenge #2: TIE Fighter

The second hat challenge was from Jesse: build a Star Wars TIE fighter, and it has to be able to shoot (obviously).  It could be that he thought building a TIE fighter from a kit the day before would give him an advantage.  Jesse got pretty elaborate with a docking bay, and John went a little Sith with his red and black color scheme.

Hat Challenge #1: The Robot

After the success of the first challenge, the boys each secretly wrote down three ideas and the six were mixed in a (Indiana Jones) hat.  Carole is the designated selector and the first of these challenges came from John:  A robot.  It was to be recognizable as a robot without explanation and did not require and specific features.

Let the Challenges Begin!

We started our own Lego challenges this week - inspired by watching Lego Masters and the unfortunate need for social distancing/no school.  A little background for those who have lost track:  John is 11 and Jesse is 9.  I'm older than both of them.

The first challange was simply to build a boat.  I was surprised that both boys chose to make a full boat scene with water backgrounds.  Jesse's with a splashing wave and John with a wave and a beach.

This isn't a competition to win prizes, but to challenge themselves in creativity.
